What to Expect When Appealing a SSD Denial
30th January 2011
It does seem as if most social security disability claims are denied. Some people even believe that a certain number are denied for no reason other than to meet some mythical quota of denials. Whether the reason for a denial is semi-valid, such as a missing doctor report or missed filing deadline, or there seems to be no good reason for the denial, workers do have the right to appeal their case.
The first step in the appeals process is to file a signed request for appeal. This can be done by the claimant or their legal representative. There are many social security disability attorneys who are experienced with appeals and can significantly improve the chance of the appeal succeeding.
Next the Social Security Administration will review the request to ensure it is complete. They will request a disability report or review one that is already submitted. Once things are in order, they will forward the case to the Disability Determinations Services office for the area.
This local or regional office will review all medical records, including any new ones. If an in person review was requested, they will schedule and conduct the review with the applicant and their lawyer. They will also make the final decision regarding the appeal and notify the claimant in writing.
This first level of appeal is called reconsideration. If the claim is still denied, applicants can request a formal hearing in front of an Administrative Law Judge . Following that they have the right to an Appeals Council Review and, if still denied, they can instruct their lawyer to file a federal or district court case on their behalf.
Golf Jobs are Out There
24th January 2011
Loving golf isn’t a crime. It’s actually a bonus for those applying for one of thousands of jobs in the golf industry. Having a golf degree will make it even easier for applicants to secure a position, which is why golf management degrees are becoming more popular. Numerous colleges and schools are now offering such degrees to students who are preparing to work in the expanding field of golf.
The golf industry itself offers a wide variety of positions so that any golfer can find a place to marry their love of the game with a viable career. The number of golf courses being built seems to grow every year, especially in foreign countries. These courses need managers, golf pros, groundskeepers and a host of other business professionals to make them run smoothly. It gives those with a golf management degree plenty of opportunities to live and work overseas.
Golf tours are another source of employment. Tours and individual tournaments have directorships, marketing departments, accounting and other positions open for those who know their business and love everything about golf.
Still more positions are available for golf journalists and commentators , instructors and coaches for individuals and teams, and even professional golfers to fill all those tours.
Organizing the Garage
16th January 2011
There are few statistics about New Year’s Resolutions, but those that are out there suggest that a large number of people want to lose weight, exercise more, and get their homes organized. The demand for organizing has grown into its own field with professional organizers , countless book titles, and even reality shows that televise the extreme conditions of people diagnosed as hoarders.
The plan to ‘clean up the garage’ has been on most to do lists at one time or another. Some people spend years planning to get around to it and it just gets put off and put off again. If 2011 is the year of organizing, then starting with the garage can be a good idea. Depending on how long things have been stacking up, there’s either the potential to make some money selling things or the opportunity to clean up a chemical wasteland.
Sometimes the easiest way to clean up a truly messy garage is to empty all the contents and then just bring back those that are necessary. Sort all the rest into trash, sell, and giveaway piles. It is vital that all those piles are acted upon immediately. Bringing it all back in to be dealt with later is just an exercise in shuffling, not organizing.
Don’t go out and buy garage nut and bolt bins and other organizers until all the decisions have been made. Seeing what is staying is the only way to know what the actual storage needs are. The last thing anyone wants is to have empty storage tubs and racks and nothing to store in them because then they become the clutter instead of helping reduce it.
